ADHD & Neurodivergent Therapy in Orlando, FL

Different ≠ Worse

The world imposes expectations on us: how we should act, how we should dress, what we should think and do. The trouble is, nobody sits you down and explains it, until you've already broken them.

Neurodivergence isn't a diagnosis. For many, it's a series of recurring patterns in how you relate to yourself, family, friends, romantic partners, and society. The consistent throughline is being misunderstood: honesty read as rudeness, silence read as anger, needing space read as rejection. Folks with ADHD in particular contend with trouble focusing, needing heroic levels of willpower just to start a simple task, let alone sustain it.

It’s Okay to be different

Not in a hollow, feel-good way. I mean it genuinely. Certain doors are harder to open on account of being neurodivergent, that needs to be acknowledged. And also, others are more open than they might otherwise be. That doesn't cancel out the difficulty, but it’s important to hold things as equal true.

A common theme in neurodivergent adults is friction in places most people never notice. Perhaps it's spending an hour reading and re-reading the same page, and still not entirely understanding what you read. Perhaps someone asked "so what did you think about dinner?" and your honest, good-faith answer landed as an insult you didn’t intended. Or perhaps you're consistently praised for being smart, while also being criticized for not being able to get things done. None of this is a condemnation of your character, or a mark of brokenness. You're operating with a different set of rules, in a world that’s never clearly laid out what it wants from you.

How can Therapy Help?

The work generally centers on three, non-sequential parts. Often we're working on all three at once.

The first is reconciliation: accepting that your brain works differently, and that's okay. That creates real difficulties, but it also opens up possibilities (artistic, professional, social) that might otherwise stay closed off. It may not feel that way right now, but it's very possible you're in an environment that simply isn't built for your particular strengths. Reconciliation also means unlearning a lot of the beliefs that build up over time: "I'm an idiot," "I'm not good enough," "nobody wants to date me."

The second is learning to move through environments that aren't built for your strengths, skills, or way of thinking, as painlessly as possible, and ideally without losing yourself in the process. That's not the same as pushing through until it stops bothering you. It's figuring out which friction is worth engaging with, and which you're allowed to walk away from.

The third is finding the strengths, the environments, and the people where you actually thrive, and are appreciated for who you are.
